20 ESPEJOS SUCEDEN (carpeta 1)_SITE-SPECIFC ART
Durante la exposición que de 20 ESPEJOS SUCEDEN se llevó a cabo en Valencia entre enero y marzo de 2020, el proyecto fue invitado a plantear una muestra parcial en una sala de exposiciones de Madrid durante el mes de febrero de 2020, perteneciente a una asociación de larga trayectoria dedicada al pensamiento y al arte: CRUCE. ARTE Y PENSAMIENTO CONTEMPORÁNEO.
A tal fin, se diseñó un site specific tomando en consideración las particularidades del espacio expositivo y su tradición como centro de debate de socios y público en torno al pensamiento y al arte contemporáneos. Se articuló la muestra sobre una reinterpretación de materiales proyectuales, en este caso se trató de re-interpretar una instalación del proyecto que estaba expuesta en Valencia en las mismas fechas.
En Valencia, la instalación El cuerpo no está hecho de miembros, reproducía con dureza, de forma consecutiva las 38 horas de grabación del proceso pictórico de Andrea Garay , proyección a todas luces imposible de ver en una sola jornada —y consecutivamente— por el público (diseño planteado desde la premisa de respetar la imposibilidad de documentar y (re)presentar un proceso de producción artística a efectos de contemplar el espaciamiento que origina asumir los elementos separados del conocimiento de la razón, y de la visión, que constituyen parte primordial de su naturaleza). Con ese objetivo, dos proyectores colocados en paralelo presentaban sobre un lienzo de pared dos proyecciones independientes y acercadas entre sí, de 19 horas de duración cada una, presentando un proyector una tras otra todas las primeras horas de ejecución de los 19 cuadros, y el otro la última hora de ejecución de cada uno de los 19 cuadros; vehiculada esa crítica desde una estética en oposición a las limitaciones y servidumbres del documento audiovisual tradicional; desde una visualidad crítica que disloca la estética dominante en la tradición cinematográfica de presentar al artista produciendo su obra como un relato lineal y guionizado que homogeneiza al artista y a la producción, llevando ambos al terreno del espectáculo y construyendo un consenso sobre la naturaleza de la obra de arte y la naturaleza de su productor a partir de ese relato distorsionado.
En Madrid, en cambio, El cuerpo no está hecho de miembros, se reinterpretó desde dos grandes retículas audiovisuales, individuales y paralelas, de una hora de duración cada, que reproducían dos proyectores, y que remitían a la idea de tiempo en-común. Cada retícula contenía 19 horas —una todas las iniciales, otra todas la finales— de ejecución de cada cuadro. Esto estaba relacionado con la naturaleza asociativa del espacio donde se presentaba. En el lado opuesto de la sala, dos piezas de vídeo, reproducidas en dos monitores opuestos entre sí, planteaban la pregunta (y su consiguiente respuesta)
“¿cree usted que la voz de una sola persona, por sí misma, tiene fuerza suficiente como para que la sociedad en la que vive se detenga a escucharla?”,
formulada en un monitor a Jean-Luc Nancy en su casa, y en el otro monitor a 19 participantes subidos y “expuestos” sobre las piedras milenarias que rodean el Templo de Afaya, en la intervención llevada a cabo por Andrea Garay y Alfonso Legaz junto a la población de Egina, en Grecia. De esta manera, lo singular y el ser-con, lograban co-habitar un mismo espacio de sentido.
20 ESPEJOS SUCEDEN experiments transversally some ideas formulated by the philosopher on the possibilities of presentation and (re)presentation of the act of exposition of the individual before the others through the convention of the different writings and documentary means. Its processual structure, in dialogue with Human Sciences, Art History and European geography, adds travel as a work and privileges the effective translation of the Project to the field of social experience in common, interconnecting two European-Mediterranean societies through a multiple performatic design. Oral testimony, still or moving image, painting, exposed body, subconscious and (re)learning, territory or verbal expression promote experiences of territorialisation and community in and between two Mediterranean human societies with a history dating back thousands of years and a similar population: the two oldest neighbourhoods in Valencia (Spain) -El Carmen and Velluters- and Egina, a Greek island located in the Saronic Gulf, opposite Piraeus-Athens (Greece). The Mediterranean context, its contemporaneity and the challenging character of the Project are activated and amplified through the meeting of the authors with the philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy, in his home in Strasbourg.

20 ESPEJOS SUCEDEN
is a project of processual-multidisciplinary art by Alfonso Legaz and
Andrea Garay that works the act of communication, the experience of
community and the exposure of the individual to others. It
performatively investigates aspects of the concept of community
deconstructed by Jean-Luc Nancy in a referential book for the thought
and study of the social, the particular and the in common: The
inoperative community (2001).

NANCY IN JULY
► WUNDERBLOCK (160’) (2018), is one of the two non-fiction feature films, of a processual nature, belonging to the project 20 MIRRORS HAPPEN.
It is conceived as a record piece of memory-archaeology of the project
process. Its open structure, script and montage take the model of
Wunderblock (Note on Wunderblock, 1925. Sigmund Freud) original
text by Freud and belonging to Psychoanalytic Theory, and treated from
the writings on this artifact made by J. Derrida. This film -as the rest
of materials belonging to 20 MIRRORS HAPPEN- is directly related to the concept of exhibition, deconstructed by Jean-Luc Nancy in his book The inoperative community (2001).
It was presented out of competition at the 33 Mostra de València-Cinema del Mediterrani film festival (October 2018).

SYNOPSIS /
In Valencia (Spain), a woman paints portraits of a blind musician from
the writings of another woman who listened to recorded and exposed vital
testimonies of the blind man. A man records the pictorial process on
video, while studying the human body as the political incarnation of the
‘in-common’ from the ideas of the philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy,
questioning the social policies of body representation. Through the
video, the man discovers an archaic gesture in the body of the woman
painter, one of the oldest gestures represented by humanity, which links
the Histories of Art and War. The painter and the filmmaker then decide
to go out together in search of the represented gesture, moving the
visual chronicle from the painting on memory of the two oldest
neighbourhoods of Valencia, to the museum of the Glyptoteca, in Munich
(Germany), and from there to the Greek island of Egina, where the Temple of Aphaia
is located, origin of the plundered sculptural collections and of the
gesture now held by the German museum. Their work will continue together
with the inhabitants of the island, with whom they will experiment
around the act of communication, the memory, the body exposed in front
of the others and the experience of Community. Your trip will take you
to Strasbourg, to Jean-Luc Nancy’s house.
